Welcome to The Gideon Anti Aids Foundation

TRANSFORMING UGANDAN CHILDREN

FROM ORPHANS TO CONQUERORS

This site has been set up by The Friends of GAAF in the UK to work alongside people in need and The Gideon Anti-Aids Foundation in Uganda.

The GAAF vision is:

To promote human values through advocacy and community outreach programs.

To support the orphaned child by giving them an opportunity to realise their full potential and capabilities.

GAAF Aims:

  • to sensitize people in Uganda about HIV/AIDS.
  • to promote community development
  • to provide HIV/AIDS counselling
  • to sensitize communities to the plight of vulnerable children and youth
  • to provide foster care and life skills for vulnerable children and youth
  • to provide child sponsorship for orphans and vulnerable children.

It is estimated that in 2008 alone, in middle East and North Africa, there were approximately 20,000 Aids related deaths. It is also estimated that the number of people living with Aids in middle East and North Africa, rose from 200,000 in 2001 to 310,000 in 2008. Something must be done to stop this!

The Gideon Anti Aids Foundation aims to alert the children and youth of Uganda today to the dangers of HIV/AIDS and to change attitudes and behaviours.

Life has no spare. Guard it well!

A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR ABOUT AIDS/HIV

It is estimated that 2.4 million people died of AIDS in Africa in 2008 and that around 30 million Africans are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Even more tragic is the fact that approximately 10 million of the infected are young people (between the age groups of 15 to 24 years) and 3 million are children under the age of 15 years. Fear, stigma and lack of education and resources perpetuate HIV/AIDS in Africa.

The HIV pandemic is recognized as one of the greatest threats to development in sub-saharan Africa, reversing decades of progress and affecting the lives of millions of adults and children. Addressing  HIV involves confronting deep-seated inequalities such as gender inequity, marginalization and the criminalization of vulnerable groups. GAAF’s strategy on AIDS/HIV continues to align itself with development goal which aims to halt and reverse the spread of AIDS/HIV by 2020.

This strategy focuses on people directly affected by the AIDS/HIV epidemic in Africa  including people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. People living with HIV/AIDS have continued to lead the way in the response to HIV/AIDS and this strategy focuses support on the strengthened capacity and leadership of people with HIV/AIDS as well as improved treatment, care and livehood support services for them and their families.

This strategy focuses especially on the children, the youth who are not yet affected by HIV/AIDS, by guiding them to abstain from sexual activity until marriage. This  will reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and thus will help to save many lives. We also seek to help children and those affected and traumatized by the AIDS epidemic by working and empowering them and their families with an ever-increasing ability for a sustained future offering self-sufficiency, goal centred living and human dignity. And to perform any other charitable works.

Also we are focusing on giving guidance to married couples concerning the importance of fidelity in marriage. The more each partner practises adultery the higher the risk of infection with AIDS/HIV for both partners. This can bring separation or danger to their families and marriages.

We aim also to sensitize people of Uganda about HIV/AIDS; that IT KILLS and is an INCURABLE DISEASE, because Uganda is one of the African countries which has a large number of people infected with HIV/AIDS.

Therefore we have set out to save the lives of many people of Uganda, especially youth and children, and also to sensitize them to the danger of HIV/AIDS, and to help those who are already affected by HIV/AIDS by reaching them where they are that they may know that there is still hope and that they can live long. We look forward to receiving your help or support financially, morally and prayerfully.

Please let us stand together to save the lives of many people in Uganda.

THANKS

Pastor Gideon Mubiru S.
